Details: Homestead National Monument of America will be 74 years old on Friday March 19, 2010. The monument`s principle purpose is to remember the Homestead Act and the far reaching impact it has had on society. The Monument will celebrate with a program exploring what homesteaders did when they first arrived on the prairie. Please join us as we learn what the prairie was like, how they built their homes, what food they ate, what did they did fun, and much more! The program starts at 2 p.m. in the monument’s Education Center on Friday, March 19, and will last approximately an hour and half.Join the monument`s Historian and the other Park Rangers as they bring this program to life. The whole family is invited to see this story unfold from the moment a homesteader reached the prairie. Refreshments will be provided!Please dress accordingly as much of the program will be held outside, weather permitting. The program and refreshments are FREE of charge. Homestead National Monument of America is a unit of the National Park Service located four miles west of Beatrice, Nebraska. Current hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends. Admission is free of charge.
